Why Do We Think Making Healthy Decisions Is Hard?

June 5, 2020
My dear sisters,

How many times have you promised to eat better, get more sleep, stay hydrated, walk more, do more deep breathing, write in your journal (or start one!), or do daily affirmations and then something happens.

Like life. Work, school, sickness, grocery shopping, laundry, kids’ homework help, social obligations, the car breaks down, dental appointment, the dog throws up, you fight with your boss…you know, stuff.

Yet taking the time to care for ourselves—practicing self-care—is critical. It is life-saving, emotionally fulfilling, spiritually invigorating, and mentally stimulating.

At the same time, so many of us find it challenging to embrace self-care. When we don’t take those steps to incorporate self-care into our lives, it leads us to an emotional disconnect, which in turn turns into a physical disconnect. The result is isolation, loneliness, and a separation from our sacred Feminine Divine selves.

Choosing self-care is an act of love.
Take the time to love yourself today and every day.
Eating healthy should be easy. Making the right health decisions should be easy too. Why? Because we have the data. We have access to the expertise, experience, and guidance from countless numbers of knowledgeable, caring individuals.

They love to tell us what they know about nutrition, dieting, recipes, exercise, sleep, and more every day online in blogs, articles, news alerts, videos, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more. We get information from radio, TV, friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and strangers. We have lots of info at our fingertips on how to choose and eat nutritious foods.

Yet most people find it to be challenging, and some even insist it’s downright impossible. True, it can be a bit challenging, but it’s certainly not impossible.
Often the only thing holding us back from making healthy food and lifestyle choices is ourselves. Once we give ourselves self-care and self-love, we will realize we not only need but deserve the best for ourselves and, as an extension, for the ones we love in our lives.
Sometimes we succeed in making those choices. Other times we don’t. Sometimes we wait until something smacks us in the face, like a serious illness, and we vow to change our eating habits and take better care of ourselves.

Perhaps we promise to adopt a whole food eating plan, getting rid of processed foods and sugars and we follow it well until suddenly, we falter, struggle, and stop.

Why?

I believe we need to truly embrace self-care habits and truly believe we are worthy of enjoying a life that is fulfilling and allows us the best in physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. If we don’t believe this to be true, then we let other influences to divert us from the path of wellness we deserve.

I cannot make you embrace habits of self-care, but I can tell you they have made an incredible difference in my life! That’s why I want to share a few with you and let you know a secret that helps me keep on the path of deserved health and wellness:
Remind yourself every day that your body temple and sacred spirit are here to enjoy, give, and share love. You can achieve that purpose only if you accept the Divine Feminine gift of self-care and self-love.
What does that gift look like? Here are some of the self-care activities I practice and encourage you to do the same.
Each of them is a healthy decision I hope you embrace as a habit because I believe they can help you realize your full potential.
  • Eat foods that nourish your body temple—whole, natural foods free of preservatives and other additives.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking pure water, herbal teas, diluted natural juices, and bone broth.
  • Practice journaling on a daily basis, recording your feelings, desires, dreams, and goals. Also record what you are grateful for each day.
  • Repeat affirmations daily. When you repeat positive statements to yourself every day, it may sound like a minor thing, but you will be surprised by the power of affirmations!
  • End toxic relationships. This can be a challenging step, but an essential one. End relationships that are causing you pain at any level or that prevent you from achieving your potential. This may be an intimate relationship with a partner, a member of your family, a friend, or a coworker. Relationships that drain the energy from your life and keep you from being your authentic self are self-destructive and need to end.
  • Take time for yourself. All of us need time for reflection, meditation, and contemplation. I sincerely hope you can set aside at least 10 to 15 minutes every day to meditation, center yourself, have a cup of herbal tea and just practice deep breathing.
  • Declutter your desk. Organizing and decluttering your desk (or kitchen or bedroom) can give you a great sense of clarity and control.
  • Get out in nature. When you spend time in nature, you can reconnect with the fact that we are all one: we are part of our environment and it is part of us. Rejoice in the sense of belonging to the powerful universe and Divine Feminine essence!
  • Stretch. Stretching is one of the best exercises you can do for yourself. Every morning when you get up, spend about 5 to 10 minutes stretching every part of your body. You can get suggestions online or from an exercise instructor. This may be the best 10 minutes of your day! Stretching improves circulation, enhances mental abilities, boosts flexibility, and allows you to face the day with new vigor and vitality!
  • Record your gratitudes. What are you grateful for? Big or small, each action or experience or person can trigger a thought of gratitude. For example, did someone allow you to merge into traffic today? Did a store clerk remark on your beautiful sweater? Did you enjoy the birds singing outside your window this morning? Are you meeting with friends today? Is your favorite TV show on tonight? Gratitudes come in many shapes and can really brighten your day.
This is only a sampling of what you can do to feel better about yourself and adopt healthy decisions.

Basically it’s simple: when you believe you are worthy of love and feel better about yourself, you are more likely to adopt and stick with healthy habits. Your thoughts nourish your motivation to do more to support your health.
It’s a circle of life, energy, and sacred Divine Feminine power.
I invite you to join in the empowering movement of healthy thoughts, healthy living, and sacred power! Will you join me in reconnecting with your Divine Feminine power?
